The cards and prints of Loaded Hips Press are completely handmade from carved linocuts and individually printed on a letterpress from 1910 in the haunted downstairs of an old waterfront warehouse by Pacific Northwest printmaker Shannon Buck.
Shannon is the Great-Grand Daughter of a professional illustrator who designed family crests and puppet sets in Europe, and her Grandmother was a skilled draftsperson. She was raised by bookworms on an island in the swamps of the South. She learned letterpress from old-school printers.
In the artist’s words:
I believe in the raw beauty and accessibility of printmaking. I use old traditions of printing to create my work and my illustrations tell stories. There’s power in making things from scratch, and my products cultivate this by preserving the “printed by hand” aesthetic. Your purchase helps me continue to share the tradition of letterpress printing.
